Bars Upgrades for Komova.

Thank you to Onodian from WWGym for alerting us to this.

On page 2 of the Visualrian site, we get a glimpse of the Russian Olympic training squad at Round Lake.

Of note is Komova training what looks to be a piked Tkatchev.

This could be full speculation; from this angle, it could also be a piked Jaeger. But considering she already does one laid-out, why would she do both?

Also, recall that she was working a piked Tkatchev last year (to no avail).

More interesting is the double-double dismount in the video below.

(watch) Komova’s double-double dismount from training.

With both upgrades, she & Mustafina are really setting the bars-bar.

The Russian might be coming to terms with the fact that they probably won’t have 3 (possibly not even 2) Amanars in team finals. If Komova & Mustafina can score near a 16 on bars (which looks like the kind of sets they’re going for), plus a low-15 from Grishina, they could offset team USA’s Amanar advantage.

I have a feeling that things could be potentially very close after the first two rotations.

She also looks to have put some much needed meat on her bones :

We love it. She looks fantastic.

Add some yarn as a ponytail holder, and she’s looking like a Soviet bad ass of yesteryear.

We might see her at Europeans after all.

My favorite photo of the set is Grishina, where she seems intent on inhaling every fly in the gym. But her form is lovely, as always.

Cheers,

Bronwyn

Thanks Lifje. We’ve also seen an interview saying that the Olympic team would ideally be Mustafina, Komova, Grishina, Afanasyeva and a vaulter with an Amanar. Well we’d all worked that out! The big question is, where will the Amanar come from.

      Makes sense to me.

They’d heavily rely on Komova/Mustafina/Grishina in TF’s, but I’m ok with that. Just give me a pillow to bite on.

Sidorova or Paseka would most likely to be the Amanar vaulter. I say Sidorova because she’s useful elsewhere if there’s an emergency.

I’ll go with something like this :

VT : Mustafina, Komova, whoever has an Amanar
      UB : Grishina, Komova, Mustafina
BB : Grishina (scary I know, but she’s fab when she hits), Komova, Mustafina
FX : Komova or Mustafina, Grishina, Afanasyeva

The team will be decided after the RUS-GRB-SUI friendly meet in Switzerland on the 20-21st of April according to what Alexandrov said in a recent interview. I hope they send a lot of girls. Vika, Grishi and Paseka say they are going..i hope musty, demy and sidorova will go as well. I wonder if they can send two teams like the US did for jesolo…

Lifje – I think this meet is similar to the “warm up” tri-meet held before Rotterdam, so it would be 6 girls I’m assuming? I’m interested to know the format as well.

so i have some more info: Trudi on IG posted that a Swiss Media Newsletter said that Komova, Demy and Musty will go to Switzerland (plus others). so then the team going will be Komova, Demy, Musty, Paseka, Grishina and probably a 6th member. Of course this is not completely reliable and the russians like to change the teams but it sounds like a good team to send to try out the girls before euros.

That team makes sense to me.

Clara & I pointed out before that Afanasyeva doesn’t necessarily need to go to Europeans. It’s not like she doesn’t have experience.

Grishina needs to go for consistency, Komova & Dementyeva because they’ve been kind of out of the loop with surgeries/sickness, & Aliya to get back into the swing of things outside of domestic competitions.

Paseka doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me unless she plans on doing an Amanar.

She’s pleasingly ripped. Do we know when Russia name the provisional and final teams for Euros? The competition is in about a month’s time- senior TFs on Saturday 12th May, qualifying on the Thursday before.

Komova looks so growed up in that wolf jump shot. I love it!
