Lu Li wishes all Stoi readers a Merry Christmas:
While it’s after the season, check out Laschenova’s routine from 1987:
Very festive with some amazing tumbling!
It’s true, China might be more successful now than they were in the 90s (although Rotterdam was not exactly a shining example) but they’re a lot less fun. They used to do some stunning gymnastics with verve, originality and style. Now, less so. We probably need a best of 90s China roundup at some point.
As for Miss Lu Li’s choice of music, I will back her all the way for using it in the heat of a Mediterranean summer. Clearly she has Christmas in her heart!
This is all wrong. All wrong.
Is it just me, or have the Chinese largely lost the artistry from this era? They still make some pretty shapes in their various poses, but they’re mostly poses as opposed to actual dancing.
I concur, Lizzie. Though their lack of choreo isn’t as glaringly obvious as on beam. Trick, trick, trick, stocatto hand flick, trick, trick, trick, ICK.
Never did quite get over the weirdness of hearing this during the 1992 OLympics during a baking Barcelona summer… 🙂
Merry Christmas to all at Stoi, love you!
